Know Thyself: The Power of Self-Awareness

August 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

“There are three things extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one’s self.” – Benjamin Franklin, 1750

Research tells us that people who know themselves well, and understand how others see them, are happier, communicate more effectively, and make smarter decisions.  As leaders, they are more effective, with more satisfied employees and more profitable companies.

So, what does it take to be self-aware?  Can we have good internal self-awareness (clearly seeing our own behaviors, strengths, and impact on others) but lack external self-awareness (the understanding of how others view us) – or vice versa? (Spoiler alert: yes.)

Drawing from several recent research publications and the best-selling book “Insight” by organizational psychologist Tasha Eurich, Vicki will share:

  • Why most of us are not as self-aware as we think
  • Why others sometimes don’t tell us their real opinions of our behaviors (and how to find out anyway)
  • Why experience and promotions can make us over-confident about our level of self-knowledge, and how to counteract this tendency
  • Building blocks for self-aware teams
