The 3 Things New Parents Need From HR

PI Midlantic recently welcomed two new beautiful babies to our extended family.

Our Client Success Manager, Clayton Ramsey and his wife, Sarah, had a baby girl, Scarlett, on May 24th.

Our Marketing Consultant, Stephanie McGuinn and her husband, Shawn, had a baby boy, Jack, on March 15th.

With the new additions, we’ve been reflecting on challenges that come with returning to work after having a baby.

From paid leave, to pumping at work, to engagement at work, having your first child changes everything. Most first time parents don’t know what to ask before they go on leave and are dependent on HR to help guide them. Unfortunately, a recent study by Unum showed that 49% of new moms and 36% of new dads interviewed did not meet with their HR department to talk about benefits available to them.

HR professionals can turn this problem into an opportunity, however, by being the voice of new parents to leadership and by setting standards for how maternity and paternity leave are implemented.
